The Word Warrior

I have worn many hats over the years to include VP – Talent Development, Vice President of Education, Director of Client Experience, Transition Specialist, Educator, and Nonprofit Executive. I have professionally reinvented myself throughout my career due to personal decisions, physical moves, and career desires. Through past and current, paid and volunteer roles, I have supported others in their moves and I thoroughly enjoy it.  I was an English major and an English teacher. I was also a perpetual journaler growing up and well into my 20’s.

Bio

Krista Ann (Kohlhausen) deKryger has over 10 years’ experience in non-profits and their operational, departmental, and programmatic development. Her background includes working with Fortune 500 companies, higher education, the military, governmental agencies/officials, museum personnel, political and entertainment celebrities, school systems and their administrators.

Krista served as the Vice President of Education for New York City’s Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, as Director of the Walter & Leonore Annenberg Presidential Learning Center at the Ronald Reagan Museum & Foundation, as Transition Specialist at Wounded Warrior Battalion West for the United States Marine Corps, and as Vice President – Operations and Talent Development for Junior Achievement of Georgia. Krista also served as the Director of Client Services for Pathbuilders, a company focused on the continued development of high performing female leaders. Out of the “college gate” Krista taught elementary and middle school, and later in life taught 2nd graders in Gwinnett County- two periods of time she reflects upon all of “her children” with warm fuzzies.

As a transplant in Atlanta from New York by way of Southern California, Krista knew it was time to build up her southern network. Krista was honored to serve as the Chief Communications Officer for VETLANTA, a club whose focus is to attract and support transitioning military and their families to the greater Atlanta area and on the Advisory Council for Gardens for Growing Community Inc. She is a volunteer facilitator for Hiring Our Heroes and until recently, Krista was a volunteer for Hire Heroes USA (as a mock interviewer and career coach), Warrior 2 Citizen, the Norcross Discovery Park (Community) Garden, and the Neighborhood Cooperative Ministry.

In 2013 Krista was proud to be awarded “Civilian of the Year” by the USMC’s Wounded Warrior Regiment for her work out of Camp Pendleton’s Wounded Warrior Battalion West. She was recruited to co-develop operating procedures and standards for a seven-year-old department, identify problems, and implement effective solutions that aided the successful career transition of active duty service members and their spouses to the civilian sector. There she conducted one-on-one counseling and evaluated assessments for all veterans, spouses, and caretakers that recognized natural strengths, skills, and interests that focused on career planning and future decision making.

Krista earned a BA in English Literature from Rutgers College and an MS in Education from Bank Street College of Education. She is a certified Myers Briggs Type Indicator and Strong Interest Inventory assessor and uses this training to help clients of all ages and backgrounds improve their resumes and LinkedIn profiles to find meaningful work.

The Word Warrior is the proud military spouse of Major Timothy J Dekryger, USMC (Ret).
